Pause to capture panoramic photos and soak in the valley’s beauty before reaching Merzouga, where you’ll enjoy a comfortable night’s stay in a hotel near the mesmerizing dunes.
Today’s adventure takes you on a 4WD off-road Sahara safari, exploring the wonders of the Erg Chebbi desert. Highlights include a visit to the seasonal Merzouga lake, where the golden dunes meet the azure sky, and you might spot pink flamingos. Experience the rich culture of Khamlia, a village known for its hospitable population originating from various African countries, while enjoying Gnaoua music and savoring mint tea. Continue your desert journey with a visit to the historic mineral mines of M’fis, followed by an off-road excursion through the rocky black desert, leading to one of its highest peaks for breathtaking views of Erg Chebbi dunes and possible fossil discoveries. Interact with the desert’s nomadic families, gaining insights into their customs and daily lives, and savor lunch either with them or at a local eatery. Afterward, return to Merzouga for a one-hour camel ride, witnessing a magical desert sunset. Arrive at the camp to savor traditional Berber cuisine, accompanied by rhythmic drum music and the opportunity to learn the art of drumming.
Embrace an early morning sunrise and after breakfast, prepare for a day of exploration. Our adventure leads to Safsaf Oasis, where the vast black desert and serene oasis blend harmoniously. Traverse acacia tree-lined trails and bask in the tranquility of Safsaf Oasis, with its palm trees and picturesque lakes connected by meandering streams. Enjoy a leisurely walk, relishing the silence and savoring a delightful lunch beneath the shade of the oasis trees. As the day unfolds, we’ll venture towards Tisserdmine, another charming oasis closer to the dunes, offering an opportunity for exploration. Conclude the day’s journey with a return to Merzouga.
Depart Merzouga in the morning, making your way to Rissani, home to the region’s bustling local market, where nomadic communities gather to trade their wares, including food and livestock. Continue north to Erfoud, renowned for its fossil museums, offering a glimpse into Morocco’s ancient geological history. Journey onward through picturesque Berber villages, including Jorf, Tinjdad, and Tenghir, before reaching the awe-inspiring Todra Gorges. Pause to soak in the panoramic views of Tenghir Oasis, an expansive palm tree-filled oasis set against a backdrop of historic villages. Explore the magnificent Todra Gorges before settling into your hotel for the night.
On the final leg of your desert odyssey, embark on a return journey to Fes. Traverse the winding roads of the Middle Atlas Mountains, where lush valleys and breathtaking vistas await. Take advantage of photo opportunities and breaks for refreshments, making your way back to the vibrant city of Fes, where your unforgettable desert adventure concludes.
