Our 2-day adventure to the enchanting Zagora Desert begins with your pick-up from your accommodation in Marrakech, the bus station, or even the Marrakech airport if your flight arrives early in the morning.
As we depart Marrakech, we’ll soon find ourselves traversing the majestic High Atlas Mountains, navigating a winding road that takes us through the Tizi n’Tichka pass, standing at an impressive 2,260 meters above sea level. Along the way, we’ll make several stops to capture the awe-inspiring landscapes, panoramic vistas, and traditional Berber villages that grace the Atlas Mountains.
Once we’ve conquered the Atlas Mountains, we’ll arrive at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ait Benhaddou Kasbah, a historic treasure recognized by UNESCO in 1987. Here, we’ll explore the kasbah and savor lunch in its vicinity.
Our journey southward continues through the mesmerizing Draa Valley, marked by its six consecutive palm groves and kasbahs. We’ll pass through the second mountain pass, “Tizi N’Tnifift,” situated at an elevation of 1,710 meters, and journey through the Ait Saoun village, a former caravan route for Sahara traders hailing from Timbuktu.
As we proceed on our desert adventure, we’ll reach the administrative center of “Agdez,” signifying the source of Draa Valley. This valley is famous for its lush palm groves and historic kasbahs. Our journey will culminate in Zagora, where camels await to embark on a short but delightful desert adventure.
After a captivating desert sunset, we’ll take a moment to relax, savor some mint tea, and prepare for a delightful dinner at the desert camp’s restaurant. Our evening will be serenaded by traditional drum music.
ACCOMMODATION:
On the second day of our adventure, we’ll rise early to witness the mesmerizing sunrise in the desert. After enjoying breakfast and a refreshing shower at the camp, we’ll embark on a short camel ride back to our starting point.
Our journey then retraces its steps, leading us back to Marrakech. Along the way, we’ll make strategic stops to bask in the beauty of the landscape, indulge in a leisurely lunch, and explore Ouarzazate.
Ouarzazate, often referred to as the “Hollywood of Africa,” beckons us with its film studios and the historic Taourirt Kasbah, a fortified residence.
As we continue our homeward journey, we’ll cross the Atlas Mountains, pausing at picturesque viewpoints. Finally, we’ll return to Marrakech in the evening, concluding our unforgettable 2-day desert adventure to Zagora.
