Good to Know
  • Consider Longer Tours: Please be aware that this 6-day journey involves a substantial amount of driving, especially across the High Atlas Mountains. If you prefer to minimize your time in the car, we recommend considering a 6 or 7-day desert tour.
  • Weather-Dependent Experiences:Keep in mind that adverse weather conditions, such as rain or sandstorms, may result in missing out on the sunset, sunrise, or parts of the camel ride.
  • Lunch Options:While our usual stops include places offering fresh food, you have the flexibility to dine at touristy restaurants if you prefer. Simply inform your driver if you wish to book your restaurant independently.
  • Camel Riding Considerations: Riding a camel for an extended period may not be comfortable for everyone. We advise against it for pregnant women, individuals over 70 years old, or those with back problems.

Day 3Marrakech to Dades via Atlas Mountains, Ait Ben Haddou, and Ouarzazate (325 km)

Our 7-Day Tour begins at around 08:30 as we depart from Marrakech towards Dades Gorges. We’ll traverse the renowned Tizi N’Tichka pass, offering panoramic vistas of the High Atlas Mountains, Berber villages, and beyond. Our next stop is the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ait Benhaddou Kasbah, where you’ll enjoy lunch at a local restaurant near the Kasbah.

Continuing our journey, we arrive in Ouarzazate, known as “The Gateway to the Desert.” Here, you’ll explore the historic Kasbah Taourirt and the renowned Atlas Film Studios, which have attracted international film producers, earning Ouarzazate the moniker “Hollywood of Africa.”

Afterwards, we venture to Dades Gorges through the scenic Roses and Dades Valley. The day concludes with a traditional Moroccan dinner and an overnight stay in a riad/hotel amid the captivating Dades gorges.

Day 4Dades Valley to Merzouga via Todra Gorges and Erfoud (255 km)

Following a hearty breakfast, we retrace our steps within the Dades Valley to marvel at the striking rock formation known as “the monkey toes” and the 19th-century Ait Yul Kasbah. We then proceed towards Tinghir and the awe-inspiring Todra Gorges, where you’ll be captivated by the ancient clay Berber villages perched on the canyon’s edge.

Upon reaching the Todra Gorges, you’ll have the opportunity to stroll alongside the imposing 300m-high red cliffs, a haven for rock climbers. Our journey continues to Erfoud, where we’ll savor lunch before heading to the mesmerizing sand dunes of Erg Chebbi in Merzouga.

In Merzouga, an experienced Camel guide awaits to lead you on a camel trek, allowing you to explore the magical, undulating sands of Erg-Chebbi. A stop to savor the sunset and indulge in sandboarding awaits you before spending a night under the stars in a well-equipped desert camp, featuring traditional Berber-style nomad tents. The evening includes a delightful dinner and a lively music celebration around the campfire.

Day 5Merzouga Desert Exploration and Berber Culture (40 km)

As part of our 7-Day tour, following a refreshing shower and breakfast at the desert camp, you’ll embark on a return camel trek to the starting point. From there, our driver will accompany you on a tour of the Merzouga area, including a visit to the seasonal Merzouga lake, home to migratory bird species, including flamingos.

Continuing, you’ll encounter a village whose residents predominantly originate from Sub-Saharan countries, known for their Gnawa music and unique lifestyle. En route to a nomadic family, we’ll pause in the quiet town of Mefes, which boasts lead mines and mineral resources.

Dinner and accommodation will be provided at the hotel where you’ll spend the night. Enjoy a Dinner Bed and Breakfast package.

I took the 3-day tour to Merzouga, and it was the highlight of my trip to Morocco. Watching the sunrise over the dunes was breathtaking.
